about the author

Sheila Tyrer Hughes’ passion for reading developed naturally into a love of writing. After leaving school at 17, she worked as a trainee pathology lab technician before going to California in search of an adventure. There, she took care of children and horses before returning to Wales and becoming an English teacher. She loves mysteries, the countryside, ancient buildings and landscapes, and losing herself in imaginary worlds. She is a mother and grandmother and lives in Cheshire. The Red Shawl is her fourth book for children.
